From today (1 April), Hunter, who founded the Clacton-on-Sea print and mailing firm in 2004, will transition into a new role as chairman and director, while continuing to work on sales for the company.
“I still get a buzz out of sales, and I’m always excited when new projects come in – so why not stick around?” Hunter told Printweek.
“We’ve been working [towards the transition] for a year or so. Tracy’s been with us over 18 years, and it just made sense.
“Obviously it will have its own challenges, being a new role, but hopefully I’ll make it easier by still being around. She has her own style [of leadership], and I think she will do very well. She’s got a great rapport with the team and clients alike.”
Mead said she was “thrilled and excited” to take on the role and for the journey ahead.
She told Printweek: “It is an incredible opportunity, and I am looking forward to building on the company’s success and drive it forward.
“I am fortunate to work with a talented and dedicated team, and together, we will continue to build on our achievements. I look forward to leading the company into its next chapter of growth and success.”
DS Group currently employs around 23, turning over around £3m.
On the day of Mead’s appointment, the firm will coincidentally take delivery of a new Morgana Digifold Pro, bought through Digital Printing Systems.
Installed to support another Digifold Pro, the machine will help the firm ramp up its finishing department’s capacity, having already extended the finishing team's shift pattern.
“Our folders and creasers seem to be getting busier and busier, so we just want to make sure we have all the kit there available for when we need to use it,” Hunter said.
“We’re always looking for new kit, trying to streamline operations and make everything more efficient.”
