Pizza box yields hidden marijuana

MANSFIELD ?An early morning raid today at a residence in the 900 block of Johnson Street in Mansfield led to the discovery of 38 grams of marijuana hidden in a pizza box, in addition to packaging materials, assorted drug paraphernalia and $200 in cash.
The arrest of Christopher D. Adams, 30, of Mansfield, was the fourth within two days on drug charges, said DeSoto sheriff抯 Lt. Horace Womack, Tri-Parish Drug Task Force supervisor.
Task force agents, Directed Patrol Unit deputies and DeSoto deputies conducted the search in response to citizen complaints of suspected drug sales. Controlled purchases of marijuana were made from the residence, Womack said.
In unrelated arrests Thursday, the Directed Patrol Unit arrested three of four people on drug charges during traffic stops near Mansfield. A small amount of marijuana, pain medications and assorted paraphernalia were seized in searches of the vehicles.
All of those arrested have prior arrests, with one man, Roger Smith Jr., 47, of Grand, having 22 arrests covering a laundry list of charges dating to 1985, including drugs, theft, resisting arrest and attempted murder of a police officer.
Smith is charged with one count each of felony possession of marijuana, possession of hydrocodone and passing in a no passing zone.
Also arrested and their charges were: Juno Clark, 48, of Grand Cane, one count each of possession of marijuana, possession of hydrocodone, possession of drug paraphernalia; Bertrand J. Johnson, 28, of Mansfield, one count each of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant from the city of Mansfield; Labrodtrick T. McGee, 29, of Mansfield, outstanding warrant for failure to appear and improper vehicle equipment violations.
Adams, who has eight prior arrests ranging from burglary, to possession of stolen things to resisting an officer, was booked on one count each of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In still another unrelated arrest today, task force agents picked up John L. McKinney III, 21, of Mansfield. McKinney was wanted on charges of three counts of distribution of crack cocaine and one count of firearm during a drug transaction in connection with an August undercover operation. |
