| AusPost packaging to add First Nation address |
The new packaging, which also includes an acknowledgement of country, is being phased in as stock allows, commencing in Naidoc week, which is this week. It also includes a space in the Sender section to include a traditional name.
The new space to write the traditional name of the First Nation country is the first line below the name of the recipient, and on top of the address.
“Including the traditional place name as part of the mailing address is a simple but meaningful way to promote and celebrate our Indigenous communities, which is something Australia Post has a long and proud history of doing,” said Australia Post’s national Indigenous manager and Noongar man, Chris Heelan.
The change comes after a nine-month campaign by Gomeroi woman Rachael McPhail, who has also called for the addition of traditional country names on documents such as driver’s licences.
