BoxWay rounds off £3m investment on second anniversary

BoxWay Packaging Group has reached the final stage of its two-year investment programme, during which the business has invested almost £3m, as it marks the second anniversary since its launch.

The corrugated packaging manufacturer was established in 2021 after Saica Group sold its sheet plants in Peterlee, Telford, and Exeter.

The Telford plant was closed last year but BoxWay has continued to develop its two remaining operations and has invested in all aspects of the business, including in infrastructure and IT systems, people and machinery, and design and finance software.

Andrew Woollard, CEO at BoxWay Packaging Group, said: “I am delighted to announce the first two phases of our bold investment plan for our sites in Exeter and Peterlee have now been very successfully completed.

“The exciting investment phases, since our launch in 2021, which have focused on infrastructure and machinery simultaneously, have enabled us to significantly expand our customer offering and the measures implemented across both the Peterlee and Exeter sites have boosted our capacity to deliver a wider portfolio of high-quality, design-led products and services for businesses across the UK that wish to grow or to evolve into new markets.

“As we celebrate this month our second anniversary, we are looking forward to an exciting future building on the successes we have already achieved.”

He added: “We have invested heavily in new machinery at both sites. In Peterlee we have added a Kolbus specialty gluer, a Weipong five-colour rotary die-cutter, an Eterna flatbed die-cutter, a Midas gluer and a Kongsberg sample cutting table to complement our existing portfolio.

“Exeter is benefiting from adding a water-based ink Hanway digital printer, an Eterna flatbed die-cutter, a SuperNova multi-point gluer upgrade and a large-format Kongsberg digital cutting table. A finance hub has also been established in Telford to centralise and develop our systems and infrastructure.”

The final machine to go in was installed this week at the Peterlee site.

The now 70-staff business operates in the design-led, bespoke digital and flexo arena, targeting customers with a specific desire for distinctive, quality corrugated products where bespoke run sizes are important. Its turnover is expected to exceed £15m in 2023.

The company will be marking its second anniversary with internal celebrations with staff.
