"We're not the typical corrugated box manufacturer,” he said. "We utilize all these different materials; we don't just design a package from one type.”

Customers include such businesses as heating and air conditioning and medical diagnostics companies that require specially designed, cushioned packing for very fragile and complex equipment, Masnek said.

But the biggest bulk of Western Industries customer base is technology businesses, he added, which have fueled the company's growth.

The Austin location was opened in 1994 after the city became a technology company hub.

"We saw a need for our type of value-added product in that area,” he said.

And the Mexico facility was opened in 2000 after one of the company's largest customers relocated there.

"Our emphasis is on helping people with their packaging problems,” Masnek said. "We're a one-stop shop.”
